I always joke that I'm actually a mermaid, because I absolutely love spending my time in the water.  Luckily, like I've said before, I live so close to many bodies of water.  I've spent so much time at the lake, and I love being able to spend time there whether it be swimming, grilling or hanging out with friends.  I do have to be super careful though, because my skin burns so quick and easy.  Sunscreen is my other best friend besides 'Manda.

I have a super bad habit of not buying any plain colored top, because I love prints so much.  That ends up with me struggling so much in putting together outfits containing separates, because as much as I hate it: not all prints match.  Luckily, Bonsai Kitten stocks plain colored tops that are anything but plain!  I love the cross straps and cute enamel buttons, and it totally makes me feel like an X-Men...which is the best quality a shirt can have.

Anytime I'm in Georgia, Katie + I are get really excited when we find some time to visit our favorite spot at the "lake beach".  It's always really quiet and pretty deserted and we like to head out there early and spend a morning there, especially because the drive out there is one of the best parts!  We put on some music (our current go-to playlist can be found here) and sing at the top of our lungs with the windows down in my little car while usually being the only car on the country roads.

The weather was amazing but the water was still pretty cold, so we decided swimsuits were out for us that day and decided to outfit our new Bonsai Kitten tops instead.  I'm really stoked on this top and have found myself pulling it out of my closet constantly since I got it.  I love that it's the perfect perfect staple and even though it's a solid color, it's got a little something cute on so that's it's not plain.  Also, I've been trying to suck Katie into the hat twilight zone while also expanding my own collection, and was excited that when we went thrifting the day before, we found her first hat!

What's your 'beach' style?

Moais in Space | Oblong Box Shop Giveaway

Thursday, May 28, 2015

In case you've been gone this week then you may not know the big news:  it's giveaway time!  You can see Amanda's post here featuring the cutest puffer fish skirt.  The details are at the bottom of the post.  I've steadily been cutting more and more of my hair off, and I think I'm finally happy with how it's curling.  I'm still using the same foam roller method (tutorial here), but with less length it bounces to the perfect length.

Loving novelty prints is nothing new for me, and I pretty much am always on the hunt for new and amazing prints.  Luckily, The Oblong Box Shop released the Palm Springs Swing Skirts, and they feature some of the coolest prints I've ever seen!  Personally, I've been patiently waiting for Denialle, the mastermind behind the skirts, to restock Mid Century House Print Skirt.  Aside from amazing prints, the skirts are made of amazing lightweight material that I'm loving since the temperature is already in the 90s.  Heavy skirts and petticoats just sometimes aren't on the agenda especially when I'm trying not to melt outside.

Mid-century + Atomic + space are some of my favorite things, which is why my Instagram features the last name 'Jetson'.  So when I saw the Moais in Space Skirt I knew it was a match made in space age heaven.  I love the bright colors mixed with the wooden tikis and moais as the combination lends itself to be paired with so many different tops.  Plus, no matter what top I wear I get to match it with this amazing Moai Brooch from Match Accessories.

Puffer Fish | Oblong Box Shop Giveaway

Tuesday, May 26, 2015

We haven't done a giveaway in quite a while so I'm stoked to say that one has arrived!  Details are at the bottom of the post!  In other news, to state the obvious, this hat is huge.  I initially spotted it being modeled on Pinup Girl Clothing's website here (if you click this and notice it's sold out, it can be purchased here) and I thought "I need one of those!"  When it arrived in the mail and I thought... holy shit... this is WAY bigger than I imagined and when I wear it, I feel like I should throw on more black and hop in line with the Coven.  I almost returned it because it looks even more enormous on my petite frame but I figured f*ck it, it's fun. And kept it anyways.

This little Puffer Fish Skirt is from The Oblong Box Shop's Palm Springs Swing Collection (I'll say in advance, I've noticed they stay in pretty high demand, and if you're looking to snag one for yourself, you can waitlist and don't worry, she'll be restocking soon).  But, more about the skirt.  Each pattern is drawn by TOBS owner, Denialle Von Fitch, which I thought was pretty awesome considering I have the artistic talent of a preschooler.  They have little lipstick pocket in the right side seam and are made of polyester.

I've seen a few ladies question regarding the fabric and while it's not what you usually see, I really enjoyed it after growing accustomed to the difference between it and thicker cotton.  It definitely didn't wrinkle as much, particularly in the waistband after wearing it all day, and it's a bit lighter for a hot day.  I'll admit I was initially apprehensive, but it's definitely a surprisingly. nice alternative.  Also, how cute is the accompanying brooch made by Match Accessories (these are restocking soon too)!?

Wendy Shorts + Seersucker Skirts

Saturday, May 23, 2015

When we first started blogging I noticed that most of my outfits were super formulaic.  They consisted of: top, circle skirt and maybe a brooch.  I still cannot argue that this is a winning formula in my eyes and will always be a 'go-to' outfit for me, but lately my goal is to continue to step out of my own comfort zone and continue to try and be different.  There is nothing wrong with having a distinct style and comfort zone, but for me I knew I wanted to rely less on wearing the same thing. My first instinct to mix up my style was to buy pants/shorts, which led to me doing so much research on different brands that make bottoms for ladies with wide hips.

That research led me to Lady K Loves, which is known for catering to gals with a large waist-to-hip ratio.  There is a 15 inch difference between my waist and my hips so I can say with 100% conviction, BLESS Lady K Loves.  I've always struggled buying shorts, because they get about to my thighs and won't pull up any further, but these Wendy Shorts are amazing!  I definitely want to buy them in the blue harlequin print next, because that print is f*cking beautiful.  The yellow Wendy Shorts are going to become one of my favorite Summer pieces especially when I go back to Universal Studios.  I did wear a pair of shaping shorts underneath just because they're pretty sheer, and I didn't want to show off my undies to everyone.

The Nashville legal field seemed pretty empty yesterday, I think A LOT of attorneys were either 1) getting as much done as they possibly could before the 3 day weekend or 2) starting their vacations early!  So, I got to dress down a little more casual for the office  I wore this little top and skirt set + a cardigan and sandals and I really loved it!  When I left work, I grabbed my flats out of my tote bag, shed the cardigan + added a hat and decided to hit one of my favorite record + comic stores and then grab some coffee before meeting Collin for dinner.

I'm definitely a sucker for a good, matching top + skirt set.  Especially because the pieces can be worn together or separately.  So, I was drawn to this little seersuceker set from Lady K Loves.  It a 'V' cut in the front + back so when mixed with the seersucker print, it's really summery, which was fun because it's not a cut you see too often.  The top has knotted shoulders for a little something extra and  I also love, of course, that the skirt has pockets.  Also, I'll admit to having the skirt hemmed, so don't be mislead, tall ladies, this would be the perfect length for you!

Fishin' Floats + Candy Shops

Wednesday, May 20, 2015

Mine + Katie's adventures from last weekend continue!  We hopped in the car, put on our favorite pop punk playlist (we made for my bachelorette party last year) and drove the 30 minutes to our favorite dock in Augusta.  We both grew up fishing with our families all that time, so it's really nostalgic for both of us (also I think nothing makes our dads prouder than seeing us walk out the door with a tackle box and a fishing pole, even if we were a bit overdressed ; )).

When I saw the Grace Dress in Floats, I giggled to myself because it's the only dress I've ever seen with floats on it and I immediately fell in love.  The colors are seriously the EXACT colors of actual fishing floats and I remember looking in my dad's tackle box when I was younger thinking all the fake worms + fishing lures were the best colors, and here they are, on a dress!  The dress is fully lined (which is great because the fabric is light + light colored so you don't have to wear a slip, petticoat, etc. if you don't want to), it has pockets and a side zipper and the reason I mention that is because the dress is REVERSIBLE!  The 'V' in the back can also be worn in the front!

Amanda + I also visited my favorite candy shop this weekend, Cyndi's Sweet Shoppe.  I work right down the street from this adorable, little retro candy store so it's a place I visit pretty frequently.  I mean, how else am I going to get through a 9 hour shift without sugar?!  Not to mention, I'm notorious for having an intense sweet tooth.  So every week or so I go and stock up on my favorite flavors of jelly bellys, which are peach and watermelon..just fyi. ;)

When I saw the Sweetshop dress I knew I had to have it, because the print is just too perfect to pass up on.  The print alone is fantastic, but the quality of dress is top-notch.  I usually HATE side zipper dresses, but this zipper gave me no problems and didn't make my blood boil.  The sash is also double sided and features more candy jars on one side or little flowers on the side I decided to wear it.   I also loved that I got to wear a candy print dress in my favorite candy store wearing a brooch for my favorite fictional candy shop, Honeydukes.
